How Apple balanced cost and performance with the iPad Pro’s miniLEDs

“After more than three years of hype, excitement, and unfulfilled promises, miniLED backlights are finally ready for prime time,” asserts Taha Ayari, technology and cost analyst at System Plus Consulting part of Yole Développement (Yole). And he explains: “MiniLED monitors, and laptops have been available since late 2020. Most leading TV brands are adopting miniLED backlights in their 2021 flagship models. Visible laser beams in vacuum

A beam of light can only be seen when it hits matter particles and is scattered or reflected by them. In a vacuum, however, it is invisible. Physicists at the University of Bonn have now developed a method that allows laser beams to be visualized even under these conditions. The method makes it easier to perform the ultra-precise laser alignment required to manipulate individual atoms.

Jenoptik: Second quarter of 2021 also shines with high growth

Jenoptik achieves sales growth of 29.6 percent in the 2nd quarter 2021 compared to the previous year. Half-year sales increased by 18.3 percent to 389 million euros. Based on these figures, the optics group is increasing its targets for 2021 as a whole: sales are expected to rise to 880 to 900 million euros and the EBITDA margin to 19 to 19.5 percent.
