Ludger Overmeyer assumes WLT presidency
LZH board of directors member presides over German Scientific Laser Society
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ludger Overmeyer, member of the Board of Directors of the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH) and Chairman of the Scientific Directorate, has assumed the presidency of the German Scientific Laser Society (WLT) as of January 1st, 2021.

“The WLT is a strong community of scientific institutions,” says Prof. Dr.-Ing. Overmeyer, describing the goals as follows: “We want to continue to use our expertise in laser technology and photonics to advance research in the field and make the results available to other disciplines.”
The work of the WLT focuses on the identification and active promotion of strategic goals to further develop laser radiation scientifically as a universally applicable ‘tool’ and to make it usable for new interdisciplinary fields of application in optical technologies.
Dr. Moritz Hinkelmann, Head of the Optical Systems Group at the LZH, takes over as Executive Secretary of the WLT.
Among other things, the WLT organizes the Lasers in Manufacturing (LiM) conference, which will take place in 2021 either in a hybrid or virtual way.
The German Scientific Laser Society (WLT) was founded in 1997; it emerged from the Scientific Working Group Laser Technology, established in 1987. The members of the WLT are heads of large scientific institutions that are primarily concerned with the generation, amplification, shaping, transmission, measurement, and application of laser radiation. These are university institutions and institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the Max Planck Society, the Leibniz Association, the Helmholtz Association, and other non-university institutions.
