TUM develops first European AI chip in 7 nm technology
The neuromorphic chip based on TSMC standards was developed under the leadership of Prof. Hussam Amrouch

From 2028, at least three new designs are to be produced annually by the European Semiconductor Manufacturing Company in Dresden. The chips' local data processing protects privacy and offers cyber security. The chips based on RISC-V can be optimized for specific tasks, making them more efficient than all-rounders. They could be used in healthcare applications or quantum computing.
The development in Germany strengthens Europe's technological independence and reduces its dependence on Asia and the USA. Bavaria's Minister of Science Markus Blume and Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger emphasize the importance of this innovation for the Bavarian semiconductor ecosystem. TUM President Thomas Hofmann sees this as a step towards Europe's technological self-determination.
