GMA has a new chairman

Michael Weyrich has taken over the chairmanship of the VDI/VDE Society for Measurement and Automation Technology (GMA). He succeeds Atilla Bilgic, who was chairman of the GMA from 2018 to 2021.

Weyrich would like to advance the topics of digitization and AI so that new ideas, future trends and innovations in measurement and automation technology are intensified. He would also like to expand networking between industry and science. The topic of securing young talent for the GMA is also on the agenda. To this end, young people should be inspired, women promoted and experts from abroad integrated.

Michael Weyrich has been a volunteer at the GMA for years. In addition to his work on the board of directors of the GMA and his participation in the interdisciplinary committee for digital transformation, he is also chairman of the technical committee "Testing networked systems for Industry 4.0" and thus a member of the advisory board of the "Digital Transformation" department.

Michael Weyrich received his doctorate in 1999 from the European Center for Mechatronics at RWTH Aachen University. After professional positions in industry at Daimler AG and Siemens AG, he accepted the call to North Rhine-Westphalia in 2009 and became a professor for automation in production and a member of the board of the Center for Sensor Systems. Since 2013 he has been the director of the Institute for Automation Technology and Software Systems at the University of Stuttgart.
