SMT-compatible Lumenflow optics simplify LED integration on printed circuit boards
Edmund Optics is expanding its standard product line to include SMT-compatible Lumenflow optics for surface-mount applications

The LED optics are available both as individual units and in rolls, and are designed for prototyping, evaluation, and direct integration onto printed circuit boards. Thanks to integrated solder pads and tape-and-reel packaging, the components can be integrated into standard pick-and-place processes without additional mounts, adhesives, or manual adjustment.
At the heart of the solution is a patented silicone composite lens with an optical efficiency of over 90% in the range from UV-A to near-infrared. Unlike thermoplastic optics, the optical and mechanical properties remain stable even under high-temperature reflow, prolonged UV exposure, and harsh environmental conditions. As a result, these optics are suitable for applications with high thermal demands or in close proximity to heat sources. Standardization, global availability, and technical support are intended to reduce development costs and shorten design cycles.
