Seminar optical 3D metrology

Continuation of the seminar series on November 10 and 11, 2021

21.09.2021 - The Fraunhofer Vision division is continuing the series of seminars on optical 3D metrology and is holding the seminar with an practical part “Optical 3D metrology for quality assurance in production” on Wednesday and Thursday, November 10th and 11th, 2021. The venue is the Fraunhofer Development Center for X-ray Technology EZRT in Fürth.

Exact compliance with geometric dimensions plays a major role in quality assurance in production. The measurement with mechanical gauges or coordinate measuring machines is time-consuming and can usually only be carried out on random samples. With the non-contact optical measurement technology, the measurements are accelerated many times over. The performance and range of use of modern systems are constantly increasing and, in suitable cases, allow zero-error concepts to be implemented in time with industrial production.

Concept and content of the online seminar

Because of the completely different functional principle compared to mechanical measuring methods and because of the lack of experience in some areas of application, one should deal thoroughly with the topic before making a corresponding investment. In addition, the seminar "Optical 3D metrology for quality assurance in production” offers decision-relevant information. It consists of a theoretical and a practical part. On the first day, the participants first get a systematic overview of the basics and common methods of optical 3D measurement technology, such as fringe projection, laser light section, digital holography, white light interferometry or focus variation, as well as an insight into the area of algorithms and software. Afterwards, selected applications in quality assurance are presented in the form of practical reports and an overview of standards and guidelines in the field of optical 3D metrology is given.

On the second day, live demonstrations and practical work with 3D measuring machines are in the foreground. The participants have the opportunity to have specific examinations and measurements carried out on their own samples. In this way, they should get a realistic idea of the suitability of the respective technology and its possible applications for their individual practical tasks.

The target groups addressed are engineers and designers from development and test fields, employees in quality assurance and managers who want to develop a solid basis for making decisions about investments.
