Nine elections ensure continuity and change
Six long-standing board members bid farewell at the general meeting – Josef May continues to lead the fortunes of ophthalmic optics in the association.
The agenda of this year’s general meeting of the German industry association Spectaris included extensive board elections on September 16. The event was held for the first time and with great success as a hybrid in the French Friedrichstadt Church in Berlin.

In the process, Lukas Eckermann, managing director of Otto Bock HealthCare Deutschland, was elected as the new Chairman of the Bremen / Lower Saxony regional group. He succeeds Norbert Aumann, who has been a member of the board for many years. Justus Wehmer, Chief Financial Officer, Carl Zeiss Meditec, was re-elected as Chairman of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Thuringia, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt regional group.
Dr Thomas Renner, member of the board of Toptica Photonics, representing the subsidiary Eagleyard Photonics, is the new chairman of the Berlin / Brandenburg regional group. He succeeds Dr Steffen Gebauer. Roland Dimbath, chief operating officer, Rodenstock, follows in the footsteps of Dr. Michael Kleer and is the new Chairman of the Bavarian regional group.
Dr Sebastian Braun-Lüdicke, vice president legal affairs & intellectual property, Aesculap, is the new chairman of the Baden-Württemberg regional group. Markus Lusser, president of Leica Microsystems, remains Chairman of the Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland Regional Group, while Friedrich Schmitz, managing partner, Schmitz u. Söhne, is the new chairman of the NRW regional group.
Inga Kuhls, project manager medical device regulations, Drägerwerk, was re-elected by the members as chairwoman of the Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein regional group.
Josef May will remain chairman of ophthalmic optics in Spectaris for the next three years. At the digital industry day for ophthalmic optics, exactly one day before the general meeting, May was unanimously re-elected. He has held this office since 2005. Josef May, who is also chairman of the board of the overall association, thanked those present for their great support over the years and the renewed vote of confidence. He is taking with him the task of representing the interests of the consumer sector in the industry community at Spectaris, which is otherwise dominated by B2B sectors, and of remaining the relevant voice of ophthalmic optics.
At the general meeting, it was also time to say goodbye to six highly deserving and long-standing members of the board: Norbert Aumann, Dr Steffen Gebauer, Dr Michael Kleer, Michael Koller, Dr Wolf-Otto Reuter as well as Ludolf Schmitz. All six have helped shape the Spectaris success story.
