M-Fibre wins innovation award
Side light fiber system by Mentor named “Winner” in the Lighting Solutions category
M-Fibre, the flexible side light fiber system from Mentor Präzisions-Bauteile, has won the German Innovation Award 2021 from the German Design Council. With this award, the international center of expertise for communication and knowledge transfer in the fields of design, branding and innovation recognizes products and projects with particular innovative strength. The system impressed the judges in the Lighting Solutions category and was named “Winner” in the Excellence in Business to Business competition class.

The German Innovation Award recognizes products as well as processes and services with particularly innovative added value compared with previous solutions in various categories. An interdisciplinary and independent jury consisting of experts from industry, science, institutions, and finance, singled out Mentor’s M-Fibre side light fiber system as a product innovation that stands out with its originality, implementation and effectiveness, as well as the progress achieved through its use.
Due to the pandemic, the prize-winning companies and products will not be awarded in the German Museum of Technology in Berlin as usual, but during an extensive online program.
Award-winning: M-Fibre side light fiber system
“We are especially pleased about M-Fibre winning the German Innovation Award,” says Wido Weyer, owner and managing director of Mentor. “The Innovation Award is a recognition of one of our most important elements: our focus on innovative technologies. With our products and solutions, we are contributing towards developing multifunctional, individual and promising products and applications,” he states. This is also the case with M-Fibre, our thin and flexible side light fiber system, which is used as functional or decorative linear lighting in both the consumer and industrial goods sector.”
In keeping with the theme of “added value through light”, the innovative lighting solution in product and industrial design opens up numerous ways of adding functional or emotional values to a wide variety of products. Hotel or rental furniture can be illuminated in individual corporate design colours, for example. Integrated in traffic cones, access controls on public transport or lifebelts, M-Fibre provides orientation and safety and can even be used as an additional communication component in electrical appliances.
Other winners in 2021 include Continental Automotive, Häfele, Laservision, LED Linear, Ledvance, Schott, and Trilux. (Sources: Mentor, Rat für Formgebung)
