Humanoid Robotics: German Industry Calls for Faster Development
According to the automatica Trend Index 2026, 82% of the specialists and executives surveyed view humanoid systems as key to the automation of the future and advocate for greater support for their development, following the Chinese model.

For the study, 100 decision-makers were surveyed on the use of robotics and automation. 78% consider the use of AI in robotics and automation to be essential for ensuring the competitiveness of German industry. 85% already view humanoid robots as an important addition to manufacturing, even though 68% note that they are currently still primarily being used in pilot projects without widespread series production.
Humanoid robotics is a prime example of Physical AI—that is, the close integration of AI software with physical robotics. With 449 industrial robots per 10,000 employees, Germany has a high robot density and ranks third worldwide, according to the International Federation of Robotics.
