Fraunhofer Vision at Control 2022
At the Fraunhofer Vision booth, the focus is on machine learning and associated artificial intelligence methods. The central exhibit is an AI-based robot.




As part of the Fraunhofer lead project SWAP (Heterogeneous, Workload-Optimized Robot Teams and Production Architectures), the Fraunhofer Institutes IPM, IOF and IPA are developing a system for optimizing individualized manufacturing processes with optical sensors and robotics, which will be presented for the first time as a transportable platform at Control 2022.
With the aim of reorganizing manufacturing technology, the creation of a resilient and dynamic infrastructure with high productivity and individualization is planned. In this way, automated or individualized production and preventive control of manufacturing processes are to be possible, even for small quantities.
A robot placed in a cabin and controlled by AI-based algorithms picks components from a box one by one and positions them correctly in front of three sensors. The sensors then perform different steps: 3D measurement of the components using multi-wavelength digital holography techniques and pattern projection. In addition, markerless tracing of the test specimens is possible.
Other exhibits come from the areas of surface inspection, optical 3D measurement and inspection technology, and non-destructive testing.
