ABB Robotics is expanding its Fashion Inductor feature set with the AI Robot Trainer. The camera-based AI solution is designed for the fashion and apparel logistics industry and is intended to make it easier for system integrators to set up and customize automated picking applications.

The Fashion Inductor is designed for applications where products, packaging, and environmental conditions change frequently. According to ABB, a robot cell can achieve a throughput of up to 1,300 items per hour with a grasping accuracy of more than 99.5 percent. The system utilizes AI-based path planning, computer vision, and robot motion control. With the AI Robot Trainer, ABB supplements the system with pre-trained computer vision models and tools for retraining the AI. According to the company, this can reduce development and commissioning efforts by up to 75 percent. No specialized AI expertise is required for setup.

Another new feature is a digital twin function. It connects the Application Controller Platform with path planning, the AI Robot Trainer, and RobotStudio. This allows systems to be virtually planned, simulated, and validated.
