Thin section bearings keep things moving on Mars

SKF thin section bearings are used in the main robot arm, sample collection tower, tool carousel and the rover's sample handling assembly. For example, they enable the robot arm or the tool carousel to move.

The installed bearings are based on several models of Kaydon thin section bearings that have been individually adapted for the application. Weight and size have been further reduced, while maximum functionality and reliability are guaranteed - after all, repair or replacement is not an option on such a mission.
