Enao Vision turns the iPhone into an AI sensor
With Enao, an iPhone becomes a vision AI platform for manufacturing. The solution combines quality inspection, production monitoring, and data collection without the need for additional sensors
The technology company Enao Vision takes an unconventional approach to industrial image processing: Instead of using specialized cameras or complex sensor systems, the platform utilizes off-the-shelf iPhones as data-acquisition and AI systems directly on the production line. The goal is to make quality control, production monitoring, and data collection significantly simpler and faster.
According to the company, all it takes is mounting an iPhone (12th generation or later) and taking a few product images to train the AI for a specific application. The system then autonomously captures production data such as piece counts, machine statuses, product changes, barcodes, or quality characteristics. Direct access to PLCs or extensive IT projects is not required for this.
In the area of quality assurance, the AI can distinguish between good and defective parts, detect missing components, and apply individual quality rules. In addition, a timestamped image of each product is saved, enabling complete traceability for complaints and service cases. Automatic recognition of barcodes, QR codes, and plain-text information is also integrated.
Furthermore, the system handles production monitoring tasks. These include real-time counting of units as well as the analysis of machine downtime, including timestamps and image documentation. Critical events can be reported automatically, allowing those responsible to react immediately.
For automation applications, classification results can be fed back to machine controllers in real time. To this end, Enao supports industrial interfaces such as OPC UA, among others. At the same time, the captured data can be forwarded to analytics and enterprise systems, for example, for reporting or AI applications.
With its platform-based approach, Enao specifically targets manufacturing companies that want to quickly gain additional transparency, quality data, and automation potential without significant investment in hardware. The solution demonstrates how modern AI, mobile computing, and industrial image processing are increasingly converging to enable new avenues for production digitization.
