The new models – AP-5100T-CXPA, AP-5100T-MCL and AP-5100T-5GE – extend the Apex family, which already includes 1.6 and 3.2 megapixel versions, to a total of ten camera models. In terms of sensors, they are based on back-illuminated Sony Pregius S IMX548 sensors. They deliver 3 × 5.1 megapixels at up to 75, 55 or 32 frames per second and thus offer sufficient performance for demanding color applications in industrial machine vision.

Like the existing Apex cameras, the new models also use JAI's prism-based imaging technology. Precision-manufactured hard dichroic prism filters with steep spectral sections divide the incoming light into red, green and blue channels, which are captured individually by three precisely aligned CMOS sensors. This method virtually eliminates any color crosstalk and delivers more realistic, richer images with high spatial precision, making even very small details visible.

In addition to the features already available in the Apex range – such as pixel binning, single/multi-ROI, automatic level control, sequencer control, in-camera color space conversion and channel-independent exposure control – the new models offer in-camera chromatic aberration correction and JAI's Xscale function for sub-pixel image scaling.

The new Apex cameras have a robust housing with shock resistance up to 50 g and vibration resistance up to 3 g as well as an operating temperature range of -5 to +45 °C.

The cameras are designed for demanding tasks in the field of machine color detection, such as the inspection of displays, MLCCs, PCBs, food, pharmaceutical quality control as well as print and wafer inspection.
