Basler Starts Series Production of the aviator Area Scan Camera Series

Based on Kodak's new KAI-1050 CCD sensor with a resolution of 1024 x 1024 pixels, this camera series pushes the speed barrier to a new height of 120 frames per second. Progressive scan readout and global shutter technology combined with a Camera Link data interface make the aviator camera well suited for various application areas such as semiconductor and electronics manufacturing, metrology, or medical imaging.

As a result of Basler's extensive Camera Link interface and Kodak sensor experience, the Basler aviator offers excellent imaging results in terms of dynamic range and noise level, factors that will be measured and documented for each camera by automated EMVA 1288 sensitivity testing during production.

"The exceptional performance of Kodak's new sensor series in combination with Basler cost-sensitive engineering and production technology means that the aviator camera series is the first to offer mainstream pricing with performance that matches the high-end camera market segment," says Werner Borchert, Product Manager at Basler Components. "The one megapixel aviator camera offers system designers the option of a performance upgrade from XGA or even VGA Camera Link systems on an essentially equal cost basis."

To perform camera configuration, the aviator offers both the register-based type of interface commonly used with Camera Link cameras and a C/C++ high level programming API based on Basler's pylon platform. The Basler pylon driver and SDK package supports a more modern programming style and easier integration into software programs. The Basler pylon SDK includes extensive documentation and more than 100 code samples for quick integration results.
