Angular Metric Tool Completes SAL3D Library

The Angular Metric Tool of SAL3D opens up new scanning possibilities. The tool is an addition to the Metric Tool for calibration of 3D light stripe acquisition systems.

The Metric Tool offers unparalleled ease of use and programming for quickly setting up a single or multiple camera system for linear laser scanning.

Through the use of the Angular Metric Tool, SAL3D offers the possibility of setting up angular scanning systems. Using this tool, a camera and a laser set-up, which could be mounted on a rigid rig or could be a sensor head, can be used to angularly scan a scene, enabling applications such as accurate robot scanning or 3D scanning of a wide area with a compact hardware, or parts-in-a-bin scanning. Linear scanning systems are very convenient for conveyor-belt-based applications, where parts move, but needs much more room than an angular set-up for scanning wide areas where parts don't move.

Following the same philosophy of ease of use, ease of programming and very fast processing, the Angular Metric Tool allows the calibration of an angular scanning system after a simple scan of a particular calibration pattern. The outcome is a set of calibration parameters that can be used by SAL3D in order to obtain 3D metric clouds of points, free of perspective distortion, for accurate measurements.
