Vision 2026: Tekom Showcases the iiRDS Information Standard at a Trade Show for the First Time

Technical communication is making its way into industrial image processing: For the first time, tekom Deutschland is presenting the open-source standard iiRDS (Intelligent Information Request and Delivery Standard) at Vision 2026 in Stuttgart. The focus is on how visual information from machine vision systems can be linked to technical data, documentation, and service information.

Together with iiRDS consortium partner Quanos, tekom will present a live demonstration at Booth 8E51 in Hall 8, using a smartphone image for automated spare parts recognition. Using an AI-powered visual search, components are identified and directly linked to the corresponding entries in a digital spare parts catalog. The necessary information is structured using the iiRDS metadata model and made available across systems.

The standard serves as a common information layer between technical documentation, spare parts catalogs, content management systems, and AI applications. This is intended to make relevant information easier to find and service processes more efficient. Within seconds, a simple photo thus provides a reliable basis for maintenance and service decisions.

Furthermore, iiRDS highlights the growing importance of structured data for modern AI applications. At the Scientific Vision Days, Ralf Robers, President of the iiRDS Industry Consortium and Vice Chair of tekom, will explain the role of the standard in the context of artificial intelligence as well as new regulatory requirements such as the European Union’s Digital Product Passport.
