Vision 2024 promises to be bigger and more international. The three pillars of the program are the Industrial Vision Days, the Scientific Vision Days and the Vision Award.

The Industrial Vision Days are the world's largest lecture forum in the industry. Many lectures cover trending topics such as 3D imaging and AI, often with application examples. A highlight is the panel discussion "Generative AI for Machine Vision - Dream or Coming True?". Anne Wendel, head of the VDMA Machine Vision department, emphasizes the importance of generative AI for image processing. Developments such as ChatGPT2 have the potential to revolutionize the industry. It remains to be seen where the image processing industry currently stands and which new fields of application can be opened up through the use of generative AI. The experts' assessments will certainly be exciting and trend-setting.

The Scientific Vision Days focus on synthetic data. Digital twins enable realistic data sets that make the design of image processing systems easier and reduce testing effort. Petra Thanner, an expert in image processing at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, highlights how combining real sensor data with sensor-realistic synthetic data facilitates data balancing and reduces data distortions. This significantly improves the robustness and accuracy of the methods.

The Vision Award recognizes technological excellence. All nominated companies will present their innovations during the exhibition. Warren Clark, Publishing Director of Imaging and Machine Vision Europe, will moderate the awards ceremony and jury member Chris Yates of Vision Ventures will select the overall winner. Yates praises the submissions for their high level of technical excellence and clear need. The innovations from PxE Imaging, Toshiba Teli and AIT show how optical elements and software can be combined to create powerful new sensing capabilities. The modular design and deployment philosophy of Murrelektronik and AiRob offers great advantages to end users by reducing maintenance and implementation costs. Automated quality control of manual processes is also a complex task for which AI vision offers a technical solution.
