Swedish King Visits Zwickroell in Ulm
King Carl XVI Gustaf and about 40 representatives from the business, scientific, and public sectors visited Zwickroell to learn about digital testing technology, medical technology, and workforce development.

In early October 2026, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, accompanied by a delegation of about 40 people, visited the testing machine manufacturer Zwickroell in Ulm. The visit was part of the Royal Technology Mission 2026, which travels through Switzerland and Germany and focuses on Europe’s competitiveness and technological development.
The Royal Technology Mission has been organized by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) since 1984. This year’s program was developed in collaboration with the German-Swedish Chamber of Commerce. The delegation is led by King Carl XVI Gustaf and Marcus Wallenberg, Chairman of the IVA.
At Zwickroell, participants learned about digital solutions for materials and component testing. Other topics included testing applications for the medical and pharmaceutical industries, as well as the Ulm-based company’s training and continuing education program.
Discussions also focused on technological sovereignty, digitalization, innovation capacity, and the training of skilled workers. In addition to representatives from business and academia, the delegation included, among others, the Swedish Ambassador to Germany, Veronika Wand-Danielsson, and Carl Magnus Nesser, Sweden’s Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
In addition to Ulm, the Royal Technology Mission 2026 made stops in Zurich, Munich, and Stuttgart, among other cities. The goal of the trip is to foster exchange between business, academia, and the public sector regarding technologies and industrial expertise that are important for Europe’s competitiveness.
