Siemens has announced the acquisition of Canopus AI, a provider of AI-powered metrology solutions. This expansion of the Siemens EDA software portfolio will help chip manufacturers to improve precision and efficiency in wafer and mask inspection processes.

The semiconductor industry is facing the challenge of managing smaller geometries with increasing production volumes. Canopus AI offers innovative solutions that complement Siemens' existing portfolio and provide manufacturers with intelligent inspection and measurement capabilities. Tony Hemmelgarn, CEO of Siemens Digital Industry Software, emphasizes that the combination of Canopus AI's technologies with Siemens' Calibre portfolio will increase accuracy and efficiency in wafer production. Canopus AI, founded in Grenoble in 2021, is known for "Metrospection", an AI-powered approach to improve measurement and inspection processes. Further information on the acquisition can be found on the Siemens website.
