The optics and photonics community met in Naples
14.10.2024 - Review: EOSAM, 9 – 13 September 2024, Naples, Italy
The annual flagship event of the European Optical Society EOS is structured to present research results and facilitate their application, to support educational activities, to bridge the gap between industry and academia, and to bring together top researchers, key leaders, students, and industry experts.
EOSAM travels across Europe, this year landing in the sunny and captivating city of Naples. The meeting was hosted at the facilities of CESTEV, University of Naples Federico II, in close collaboration with the Italian Society for Optics and Photonics, SIOF, the Italian branch of EOS. EOSAM attracted 470 top researchers, key leaders, students, and industry experts from more than thirty countries from all over the globe.
Covering a wide range of topics in optics and photonics, EOSAM 2024 included over four hundred presentations in parallel and plenary sessions. The plenary speakers included outstanding experts such as Hatice Altug, Anna Peacock, Claudio Conti, Miles Padgett, Fredrik Laurell, Kishan Dholakia, and Chi-Kuang Sun.
As part of the EU project sessions organized in collaboration again with Photonics 21, Werner Steinhögl from the European Commission gave an insightful presentation on perspectives for photonics in the context of the PPP and the Chips Act.
The industrial optics podium gave a nice array of points of view on strategies for successful technology transfer from the lab to the market. From the discussion, it is clear there is still work to be done to connect the industry and academia. EOS organized the session for the third time together with EPIC, the European Photonics Industry Consortium.
EOSAM also included twelve tutorial speakers, several special sessions, networking events, and presentations from EOS partners across the globe about their activities, as well as award ceremonies with several new EOS members receiving a distinction for their immense support and contributions to the field of optics and photonics.
Overall, EOSAM 2024 was a remarkable gathering that showcased cutting-edge research, fostered international collaboration, and celebrated the progress being made in optics and photonics. We look forward to future editions of this dynamic event where the global community can continue to share ideas and advance these critical fields.
The next EOSAM will be held in Delft, the Netherlands, 24 – 28 August 2025.
