Keysight Acquires VPIphotonics
Developers in the fields of optics and electrical engineering can use it to model photonic components, circuits, and complete transmission links in a unified environment

On June 9, 2026, Keysight Technologies completed its acquisition of VPIphotonics and expanded its portfolio of photonic design automation to include system simulations. This enables developers in optics and electrical engineering to model photonic components, circuits, and complete transmission links in a unified environment.
Keysight’s offering now covers the entire chain: RSoft simulates the component physics of waveguides, gratings, modulators, and laser sources, while Photonic Designer addresses the design of photonic integrated circuits. The VPIphotonics Design Suite complements this with system simulations, such as for silicon photonics and co-packaged optics applications in data centers and AI infrastructures.
One example is VPI Optical Link in Keysight ADS, which maps the entire transceiver path from the electrical signal to the optical signal and back to the electrical signal (E-O-E) in a single analysis. When used in conjunction with Keysight’s high-speed digital tools and measurement instruments, system parameters such as bit error rate can be consistently evaluated across simulation and measurement, thereby reducing the number of prototype iterations.
