Injection Molding and Plastics Workshop

05.07.2016 -

The GOM workshop took place on June 21 in Hanau (Germany) and brought together 180 experts from the fields of production, development and quality control. The thematic focus of this industry get-together was Industry 4.0, including topics such as current developments in quality control with regard to 3D metrology and the evaluation software.

The workshop series was formed owing to the increasing demand for improved quality within the plastics industry. At the same time, it is important to reduce costs and the required time in order to remain competitive. Users such as Coloplast, Pöppelmann and Continental reported on their experience using GOM measuring systems and on how almost all production processes can be accelerated while ensuring a high consistency of quality – from construction, tool try-out and initial sample testing up to the series-accompanying production control. The advantage compared to tactile methods is that non-contact and full-field measurements require significantly less time. Furthermore, the GOM measuring and evaluation software replaces hundreds of classic inspection report pages including tables by a few illustrations and functional dimensions. It is even possible to easily import volume data generated by computer tomographs via drag & drop and to directly analyze it. For this purpose, GOM developed a function allowing the import of all common native CT data formats, such as *.vgi, *.vgl, *.pcr, *.exv and *.rek, without requiring time-consuming intermediate steps. In addition, all evaluations can be shared and processed among customers, colleagues and departments with the free GOM Inspect software.
