IDS Joins the IPAI AI Network
IDS is contributing its expertise in computer vision and edge AI to the Heilbronn AI ecosystem. Plans include hackathons, camera tests, and a new AI Vision Circle, among other initiatives.

IDS Imaging Development Systems has joined the IPAI in Heilbronn as a partner. The company primarily aims to contribute its expertise in computer vision and edge AI while collaborating with other companies and research and technology partners on AI applications.
IPAI is a platform for applied artificial intelligence. An AI campus is currently being developed in Heilbronn, designed to bring together companies and institutions in the development and use of AI technologies.
IDS is planning several specific initiatives as part of the partnership. In the new “AI Vision Circle,” IPAI members will exchange ideas on AI-based image processing and develop application concepts. In addition, there will be computer vision hackathons and a so-called “Vision Readiness Check.” Participants can also borrow cameras from IDS for their projects.
From a technical standpoint, IDS aims in particular to contribute its expertise in AI directly within or near the camera. With IDS Nxt, the company already offers intelligent camera systems. According to the company, AI functions are also being integrated into the Ueye Live portfolio for industrial monitoring tasks. Neural networks can be used, among other things, for object and position recognition, package handling, and code reading.
IDS is also collaborating with Denkweit on these applications. Denkweit’s neural networks are used in AI-based image analysis.
IDS also intends to use the partnership to identify requirements for future cameras and computer vision components at an early stage. The company has not yet specified which specific products or joint development projects will result from the collaboration with IPAI.
