First Sensor cooperates with LeddarTech

16.01.2020 -

First Sensor supports LeddarTech in developing the first open and comprehensive LiDAR platform option for OEMs and Tier1 suppliers in the automotive industry. With the partnership, the companies want to accelerate the use of LiDAR for driver assistance systems and applications for autonomous driving.

The new platform offers a solution package that is tailored to the requirements of OEMs and Tier1 suppliers in the automotive industry. Common architectures and standardized components reduce risks, ensure improved scalability of the production volume and enable cost-optimized and flexible LiDAR applications. A scalable platform roadmap improves performance and optimizes costs. The platform provides companies with support from technology leaders. In addition, own intellectual property and specialist knowledge can be used correctly.

First Sensor and LeddarTech first develop a LiDAR evaluation kit and thus present a technical concept in a working LiDAR technology. The collaboration is intended to create a tool for Tier 1 users and system integrators with which they can develop their own LiDAR technologies, which are based on the First Sensor APDs and the LeddarEngine technology, among others. The evaluation kit is primarily aimed at applications in the area of front LiDAR such as motorway pilots and traffic jam assistants.

First Sensor develops the receiver module for the LiDAR evaluation kit. The receiver submodule, which uses the patented LeddarCore SoC and LeddarSP signal processing software from LeddarTech, records the reflected impulse from objects in the field of view (Field of View, FoV) to provide time-of-flight (ToF) data for the reproduction of a 3D image with depth information provide.
