Captec Becomes Majority Shareholder in Spectra
After more than four decades under founder Harald Lang, Spectra is getting a new majority owner. The British Captec Group is acquiring a majority stake in Serikon Holding
The British company Captec Group Plc is acquiring a majority stake in Serikon Holding GmbH, which includes Spectra GmbH & Co. KG and Spectra Schweiz AG. This marks the end of company founder Harald Lang’s era as the controlling shareholder after nearly 44 years.
Spectra was founded in 1982 and develops and manufactures custom industrial PC solutions for automation and industrial applications at its Reutlingen facility. According to the company, up to 25,000 configured systems are produced there annually.
With this acquisition, Captec is expanding its activities in the European market for industrial computer and embedded solutions. The British company has been active in the field of custom computer platforms since 1985 and, similar to Spectra, focuses on industrial and safety-critical applications.
According to the companies involved, the existing structures will remain in place for the time being. Spectra will continue to operate under its current name, and the management teams are also expected to retain their positions. Operational business in Germany and Switzerland is to be continued independently within the new ownership structure.
For Spectra, the transaction primarily represents a change at the shareholder level. It is not yet known what long-term effects the new ownership structure will have on strategy, product portfolio, or market presence. However, the companies emphasize that they intend to pool their respective expertise more closely in the future and expand their international market presence.
