Basler: Sales to grow strongly in 2022, profit almost unchanged

Camera manufacturer Basler achieved sales growth of 27 percent in fiscal year 2022. The pre-tax result, however, remained almost constant. In contrast, incoming orders decreased significantly.

With a growth of 27 percent, Basler achieved a turnover of 272.2 million euros in the fiscal year 2022. The obstacle for further growth were the bottlenecks in semiconductor components, especially in the first half of the year. This was also a factor in the almost constant result of 28.3 million euro (previous year: 28.0 million euros). In addition, the costs of changes to the corporate structure had a negative impact on earnings.

Significant decline in order intake

Cooling demand in the course of the fiscal year, particularly in Asia and America, led to a 23 percent year-on-year reduction in incoming orders to 248.4 million euros. One reason for this significant decline was the massive increase in orders received in the last two years, provoked in part by the global semiconductor shortage.

Decline in sales expected for 2023

Weak incoming orders in Asia and the USA in the first three months of the year make Basler's management cautious about the course of the year. Against this background and the currently weak economic forecasts for the year 2023, the management assumes a transition year with continuing geopolitical uncertainties. Based on the current information, Basler plans sales between 235 and 265 million euro in fiscal year 2023. This corresponds to a decrease between just under 14 and around 3 percent.
