Midopt developed the Silwir protective screens to ensure durability and performance for thermal imaging systems in the long-wave infrared (LWIR, 8–12 µm) range. They are made of pure silicon and finished with diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings as well as anti-reflective (AR) coatings on both sides. As a result, Silwir offers a powerful combination of optical clarity and mechanical strength—with more than twice the strength of conventional germanium (confirmed by drop ball tests).

Silwir windows are designed for demanding environments and feature over 80 percent transmission across the entire LWIR spectrum, while withstanding temperatures of up to 200°C. Thanks to their excellent thermal conductivity and scratch resistance, they are suitable for applications where reliability is critical, including defense systems, surveillance equipment, medical imaging devices, and industrial process monitoring.

Silwir is available in sizes with diameters up to 20 cm and meets strict industry standards such as MIL-F-48616 and MIL-C-48497C, ensuring consistent quality and performance across all applications.
