Sick and Trumpf subsidiary develop quantum sensors
10.11.2020 -
Sick and the Trumpf subsidiary Q.ANT will be working together on the development of quantum optical sensors in the future. Representatives of the two high-tech companies today signed a cooperation agreement to make quantum technology usable for sensors in industrial use. Quantum sensors enable measurements with an accuracy that was not technically possible until now. The signing was preceded by a successfully completed function test of the world's first quantum optical sensor that can be used for series production.
Quantum sensors could then be part of everyday life in various industries in the future: For example, underground structures could be mapped in civil engineering before construction begins; In the pharmaceutical industry, it could be easier to determine the best composition of tablet powder; In electronics, circuits could be inspected through surfaces and in industry, high-precision measurements could be made. With industrialization, the market for quantum sensors should grow steadily. Experts from the German Academy of Science and Engineering Acatech estimate the global market volume for industrial quantum sensors at around 1.1 billion euros by 2023.
