Practical Digitalization for Industry 4.0 and IIoT
The Automation Conference 2026 at the WTZ Conference Center in Heilbronn focused on hands-on workshops related to digital transformation in industrial automation

Users, developers, and decision-makers worked directly with the hardware and software provided and discussed specific issues with experts from the vendors.
The focus was on key technologies of Industry 4.0 and IIoT: artificial intelligence in engineering and MES systems, edge and cloud computing, digital twins, predictive maintenance, industrial communication, sensor technology, as well as security and compliance. Codesys demonstrated AI-supported PLC programming, Aptean showcased AI functions in MES, and Fraunhofer IOSB presented methods for professional AI project management.
Another key focus was cybersecurity in the context of the Cyber Resilience Act. Additionally, topics such as fiber-optic technology, mechatronic simulation, CC-Link IE TSN, edge AI analysis, and low-threshold machine digitization were covered. The Innovation Café provided a space for technical exchange and networking, particularly regarding IO-Link, asi-5, and industrial network infrastructures.
