Synapticon and Stabilus are jointly developing actuators for humanoid robots

Synapticon and Stabilus have entered into a strategic partnership to develop and manufacture integrated actuators for humanoid robots and other robotics applications. The goal is to bring drive joints for all limbs—from the head and wrist to the hip and knee—to series production.

The partnership focuses on the drive system, which determines precision, safety, and scalability in every humanoid joint. Synapticon and Stabilus emphasize that high quality standards and low maintenance costs are crucial during the transition from prototype to mass production. This is where the two companies intend to focus their efforts.

The responsibilities are clearly divided: Synapticon (approximately 70 employees) provides the drive technology, software, functional safety, and electronics and sensor design. Stabilus (approximately 8,000 employees and 1.3 billion euros in revenue for fiscal year 2025) contributes mechanical design, sourcing, industrialization, manufacturing, assembly, and logistics. The Koblenz-based company has already delivered millions of electromechanical actuators to the automotive industry alone.

“Humanoid robots need drive systems that integrate motion control, safety, and high-volume production from the very beginning,” says Simon Fischinger, CEO of Synapticon. David Sabet, CTO of Stabilus, adds: “Our goal is to occupy a key position in the drive systems of humanoid robots.”
