Zeiss acquires GOM

3D metrology

20.05.2019 - Zeiss has acquired GOM, a provider of hardware and software for automated 3D coordinate metrology, the industrial metrology and quality assurance portfolio of its Industrial Quality & Research division.

Both Zeiss and GOM have recorded strong growth in recent years and have successfully held their own in the market. The aim is to jointly further expand this leading technological position - especially in the field of optical digitizing systems. In doing so, the combination of existing products and solutions as well as future joint new developments will be the basis for shaping and opening up new markets.

The combination of Zeiss' product portfolio with GOM's optical 3D measurement technology has the potential to open up new opportunities and market access in the field of Industrial Quality & Research. "Being part of the Zeiss Group opens up new perspectives for GOM for the future, which will also have a positive impact on the Braunschweig site and on our business partners. With the combined process and solution knowledge of Zeiss and GOM, we can open up new customer segments and applications," said Dr. Detlef Winter, CEO of GOM.

Upon completion of the transaction, GOM will become part of Zeiss' Industrial Quality & Research division (2017/18 sales: EUR 1.549 billion). The corporate form of the GOM companies in Germany and abroad is to be retained. The successful cooperation with the global sales partners is to be continued. The transaction is expected to be completed in the first half of 2019, subject to regulatory approval. Both parties have agreed not to disclose the financial details.
