The winners of the inspect award 2023

25.10.2023 - From a total of 20 nominations with just as many exciting innovations, the jury of the inspect award 2023, together with the readers of inspect, selected three winners in each category.

The winners of the Vision category

1st Place: AT – Automation Technology – Software CX Metrology Package

The CX Metrology Package software tool from Automation Technology enables the integration of 3D sensors, commissioning and an initial evaluation of metrology applications within ten minutes. The package consists of several tools combined in the Metrology Explorer and a Metrology Software Development Kit and offers numerous demo programs for evaluations of typical 3D metrology applications. Users can test the sensor live with these evaluation scripts and adapt it for their application solution. The benefits: a significantly faster time to market and greater flexibility in terms of functionality and expandability.

2nd Place: Baumer Optronic – Industrial Camera CX.XC

Baumer's CX.XC industrial cameras offer a solution for high-precision image capture in semiconductor manufacturing by providing temperature stability while maintaining a compact design of 36 x 36 mm. Cooling via the built-in channel works with compressed air and liquids. In doing so, the integrated channel dissipates the heat from the direct vicinity of the sensor and lens, thus lowering the temperature to constant values within a few minutes and thus significantly faster than the external devices that have been common up to now. This means time and cost savings for users because Baumer's active cooling shortens the wait until measurement data acquisition.

3rd Place: Beckhoff Automation – Machine Vision System Beckhoff Vision

In addition to the Twincat Vision software, Beckhoff Vision now also includes an Ethercat-based hardware portfolio consisting of cameras, lenses and lighting. Application advantages result here from the deep integration into the control technology as well as the continuous ultra-fast Ethercat communication. This results in highly accurate synchronization with all machine processes, reduces engineering and hardware costs, and simplifies commissioning and support. The hardware design features IP65/IP67 anodized aluminum and tempered glass housings, high chemical resistance, flexible mounting options, and optional splinter protection.

The winners of the Automation & Control category

1st Place: Micro-Epsilon – Confocal DT IFD2415 Confocal Sensor

The Confocal DT IFD2415 compact confocal sensor represents a new generation of sensors. It offers high performance in an all-in-one housing with integrated Industrial Ethernet. With measurement rates of up to 25 kHz and a resolution from 8 nm, even dynamic measurements can be performed reliably and with high accuracy. Multiple measuring ranges and accuracy classes open up a wide range of measurement tasks, for example in series production in coordinate measuring machines, for inline thickness monitoring of flat glass and for testing electronic components. With IP65-certified housing and integrated controller, the sensor is suitable for integration into industrial series applications.

2nd Place: Ziemann & Urban – Inspection System Hekutip QC

Pipette manufacturers can save themselves time-consuming examinations in measuring rooms, as many measuring and testing tasks can now be integrated fully automatically into an existing production plant. With the autonomous Hekutip QC inspection system, which was developed by Hekuma and Ziemann & Urban, users can telecentrically inspect a pipette tip for parameters such as diameter, burrs and wobble circles with an accuracy of less than 1 μm using several camera perspectives. Fifteen features can be checked using smart image processing, whereby the measurements and evaluations have no effect on the specified material flow.

3rd Place: EVK DI Kerschhaggl – Embedded System Alpha G100

The EVK Alpha G100 is an embedded data processing platform for real-time spectral data classification. The platform features an optimized image processing system for a GigE Vision/GenICam compatible hyperspectral machine vision sensor for use in the process line. It supports all of EVK's market-proven data processing capabilities for qualitative and quantitative analysis. The platform is available for classification and sorting applications and enables the classification of 100 material classes due to the new Class functionality. The rugged design is suitable for harsh environments in the temperature range -20 to 45 °C.
