Bte Bedampfungstechnik GmbH and Born Coating GmbH, Bte for short, is a medium-sized company based in Elsoff/Westerwald and a renowned optical coating company. More than thirty years after the founding, the former managing director and owner Reinhard Born retired from the management on 1 April 2024.

Bte Bedampfungstechnik was founded in 1992 at a time when vacuum coating technology was much less established than it is today. However, the demand for optically coated components was steadily increasing, so that the company grew rapidly. Born Coating was founded in 2003 with a focus on coatings specifically for the automotive industry.
The number of coating systems has constantly increased to 28 today, with Reinhard Born always focusing on new technologies. The vacuum coating systems range from thermal evaporation and ion-assisted electron beam evaporation to magnetron sputtering. “We have developed and built many of the available coating systems ourselves or modified them to meet our customers' requirements,” says Born. The layer design for customer products has also been and continues to be developed in-house. This results in a deep understanding of systems, processes, layer options and products.

Under Reinhard Born, Bte Bedampfungstechnik and Born Coating have developed into successful medium-sized companies that stand for quality and innovation in optical coating. Today, almost a hundred employees coat optical components for customers in high-tech industries such as automotive, sensor and medical technology.

“It has been an enriching and exciting time that I look back on with great pleasure,” says company founder Reinhard Born. “Now, after many successful years, I am pleased to hand over the company into competent hands from within our own ranks.”

From 1st April 2024, two long-standing employees will share the management of Bte Bedampfungstechnik and Born Coating: former production manager Ansgar Link and Damian Janczyk, head of electrical engineering. Ansgar Link has been with the company for 28 years, while Damian Janczyk can look back on 20 years at Bte.

“We are looking forward to working on a team to focus even more on the needs of the market and our customers,” the two new managing directors declare. “The positive development of the last three decades would not have been possible without the trusting and often long-standing cooperation with our customers and business partners. We will build on this seamlessly," say Janczyk and Link, looking optimistically into the future.
