An NIR imaging system for integration onto a commercial space platform
11.06.2024 - HySpex selected as supplier for hyperspectral camera for in-orbit servicing mission.
A private space company has selected HySpex as the supplier for a cutting-edge hyperspectral camera to be utilized in an upcoming in-orbit servicing mission. Leveraging its expertise in hyperspectral technology, the Norwegian provider of advanced hyperspectral imaging solutions will deliver a solution tailored specifically for the mission.
The application of the HySpex NIR camera marks a significant advancement in commercial space technology solutions, offering enhanced capabilities for monitoring and managing satellites and their payloads.
After rigorously testing commercially available off-the-shelf systems from several hyperspectral imaging (HSI) suppliers, the company selected HySpex for the next stage of their ambitious project. The testing phase involved a comprehensive evaluation of performance, reliability, and adaptability among the various HSI suppliers and HySpex emerged as the preferred choice. The partnership is a significant step forward in advancing space-grade sensors tailored for specific applications, with a focus on minimizing modifications for seamless integration and reducing time to launch.
“We are thrilled to be selected as the supplier for this groundbreaking project,” said Lars Lierstuen, CTO at NEO. “This collaboration underscores our commitment to pushing the boundaries of hyperspectral imaging technology and contributing to advancements in space exploration.
Launch of the HySpex camera is slated for 2025, with the aim of enhancing the monitoring and detection capabilities in the ever-growing space environment. The HSI camera covers the wavelength range from 950 – 1,700 nm and provides 640 spatial pixels in the cross-track direction, 360 spectral channels, and 4.38 nm spectral sampling.
