EBM-Papst and Mainova conclude Power Purchase Agreement
05.09.2024 - Thanks to this agreement, EBM-Papst Germany will obtain its annual basic electricity needs from a solar field in the Uckermark region from January 2025
EBM-Papst has concluded a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Frankfurt-based energy supplier Mainova. For the next nine years, EBM-Papst Germany will use this contract to cover around 20 percent of its electricity needs from a photovoltaic system operated by Mainova in the Uckermark. The remaining 80 percent of its electricity needs will come from wind and solar systems in Germany with green certificates of origin that are no older than 15 years. As a result, from January 2025, EBM-Papst Germany will verifiably obtain 100 percent of its electricity from modern, sustainable energy sources produced in Germany, making a significant contribution to reducing the company's carbon footprint. In addition to ecological sustainability, the PPA contract also offers EBM-Papst economic advantages: Thanks to the long-term agreement with Mainova, EBM-Papst receives a stable electricity price for the PPA delivery quantity, making it more independent of the volatile energy markets. EBM-Papst financial planning security. The company will re-evaluate electricity requirements after 2025 and expand the PPA if necessary.
In addition to the PPA, EBM-Papst also relies on its own photovoltaic systems at its German locations to cover electricity requirements and relieve the strain on the grids. The company plans to continuously expand its photovoltaic capacities worldwide. A special budget of 10 million euros for sustainability projects supports these efforts.
