Cameras for Linux

Baumer Optronic FWX FireWireTM cameras now support Linux for Kernel versions 2.4./2.6. Industrial PC-users are discovering more Linux versions of, for example: Suse, Debian or Mandriva, being offered as very stable alternatives to Windows at reasonable cost. Lutz Schmidt, the company’s International Sales Manager, states: “Although Linux is not as widespread as Windows within the industry, it is becoming more and more important especially for development engineers of automation systems. As a market-orientated company we want to offer Linux users the possibility to use the latest versions of our software tools for the development of their image processing applications.” As a result, a new Linux software device driver and corresponding software development kit (SDK) is available for the latest Kernel versions 2.4./2.6. to be used together with the company’s FireWire industrial camera product range.
