Ultra high temperature testing on ceramic composites

09.12.22 - With a customized high-temperature testing device from ZwickRoell , the material properties of ceramic matrix fiber composites can be tested in a vacuum and at temperatures of up to 2,000 °C under real operating conditions.

test

The customized high-temperature testing solution is based on the load frame of the Kappa SS-CF electromechanical creep testing machine. The machine, adjusted in height and width, offers additional space for a vacuum and inert gas chamber . This has graphite heating rods and ensures a constant temperature distribution on the sample up to 2,000 °C.

The temperature is measured and controlled up to 1,700 °C with type D thermocouples, for higher temperatures a 2-color pyrometer is used for control. The extreme operating conditions place high demands on the strain measurements in particular. Both optical and contacting high-temperature extensometers are suitable for use in vacuum and inert gas . The ZwickRoell extensometer is particularly suitable for non-contact strain measurement in a vacuum laserXtens . It measures with high precision, offers a variety of evaluation options and is easy to use. Since no sample marking is required, the user saves a lot of time.
