MoveInspect now applicable for Free Motion Head Tests

A new interface for Aicon's MoveInspect HR enables its use for FMH tests. This unique interface between the measurement technology of Aicon 3D Systems and the software FMH-Wizard from the Austrian company Concept Tech GmbH is particularly relevant for head impact determination under FMVSS201u. The aim of the FMH tests is to determine and reduce the risk of acceleration-induced head injuries to the car occupants early in the vehicle development phase. In the experiments, the various surfaces of the vehicle interior are shelled with a free-flying aluminum head (Free Motion Head Form). On the basis of the measured acceleration, the severity of the expected head injuries can be calculated.

To comply with the provision of FMVSS201u, a variety of configurations and combinations must be measured and verified by the vehicle developers. Aicon's optical measurement system MoveInspect HR and the FMH-Wizard streamline the test process and provide accurate measurement results. The Wizard guides the operator through the complex measurement procedure. All relevant measuring points on the vehicle (as specified by FMVSS201u) are addressed by the software. The application of  MoveInspect HR allows the user to tag these points and to conduct the measurement. The operators also benefit from the efficiency of the measuring system. Due to the self-referencing of the system, accurate results are generated more quickly and user-independent.

Additionally, the newly developed software module for the Aicon 3D Studio, Move 6D, supports the implementation of the FMH testing. This module enables the positioning of two or more rigid bodies to each other in six degrees of freedom, the controlling of their position and the orientation in space are simplified. This is necessary to position the launch facility of the aluminum head relative to the vehicle during the FMH tests. As a part of Aicon's MoveInspect Technology Move 6D is also applicable and expandable for many other measurement tasks.
