3D surface measurement system for defect detection

Polytec

With Topmap, Polytec has established a series of optical 3D surface measurement technology that is suitable for rapid and reliable quality control with regard to surface quality and geometric parameters. It measures and documents every workpiece.

Unlike purely camera-based inspection systems, 3D measurement technology also determines height data, which is essential for defect detection, among other things. Based on white light as the information carrier, 3D topographies are recorded over an area, in contrast to the linear 2D representation of conventional tactile measuring and probing tips. The 3D surface measurement system scans the entire workpiece surface in a non-contact and areal manner, determines shape parameters such as flatness or step height, characterizes roughness and structural details or detects deviations to defined tolerances. Due to the high measuring speed and comprehensive detection of the components, this measuring method is suitable for manufacturing processes that are designed for high throughput and short cycle times.

Polytec goes one step further here with the optical precision measuring devices: Sensors and measuring heads can be integrated into existing lines and operated automatically. Using software solutions, routine measurement tasks are defined, modified or stored in advance, and the operator calls up the program for each component for simplified and accelerated operation without user error. Whether it's automatic part position detection or measuring multiple parts in a single shot, the options and special configurations for Topmap 3D surface metrology keep operator involvement simple and inspection productivity high.
