AMS Osram opens new design center in Valencia

20.09.2024 - New building marks a significant milestone in the trajectory of the company to lead innovation in medical imaging technology on a global scale.

Although the company has been operating in Valencia for 16 years, this new center, located in the iconic building at 60th Colon Street, reaffirms AMS Osram’s commitment to innovation, development, and university collaboration, while positioning itself as a leading employer for design engineers in the region.

The company’s design center in Valencia has been a fundamental pillar in the development of technologies that allow medical imaging OEMs to produce high-precision images with minimal radiation doses. Since 2010, shortly after the inception of the Valencia design center, it has become a hub of innovation in medical imaging technology. The CT and X-ray sensors developed ensure highest reliability and outstanding performance, making medical diagnostics more accurate and enhancing diagnostic value with sharper images while reducing radiation doses for improved patient care.

In recent years, AMS Osram has established itself as a pioneer in the field of medical and industrial imaging, offering advanced solutions for computed tomography (CT) and digital X-ray. With this new design center, the company plans to maintain its leadership position by developing next-generation solutions that improve the quality of medical diagnostics and, ultimately, patient care.

Jens Milnikel, executive vice president of AMS Osram’, emphasized that “the opening of our new design center in Valencia marks a significant milestone in our mission to lead innovation in medical imaging technology.” Meanwhile, Rafael Serrano-Gotarredonda, director of engineering for medical imaging at AMS Osram, stated: “we aim to attract the best design engineers in the region by offering growth and development opportunities in a dynamic and technologically advanced environment. The expansion of the design center in Valencia reflects our commitment to the local community, providing opportunities for recent graduates and experienced professionals alike.”

To stay at the forefront of technological innovation, collaboration with local universities is an essential part of the company’s strategy. In partnership with the University of Valencia (UV) and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), AMS Osram has co-financed Microelectronics professorship programs, supported by Spain’s chips act. These programs include doctoral scholarships and joint research projects, which have been fundamental in advancing medical imaging technology.

Salvador Coll, vice-principal for innovation and transfer at the Polytechnic University of Valencia stressed: “Our collaboration with AMS Osram has been fundamental in driving the efforts of the Universitat Politècnica de València to promote the knowledge and research in semiconductors and microelectronics – and thus shape the future of Valencia as a hub for innovation in these fields.”

And it should stay that way. Rafael Serrano noted that “although we are physically moving away from the university campus, collaboration with UPV and UV remains vital for us. We are committed to continuing our support through training programs and R&D projects that benefit both industry and academia.”
