Endress+Hauser expands campus in Reinach
Shell construction work began in 2019, the inauguration will be celebrated on July 1, 2022
In the past five years, the number of employees at the Reinach site (Canton Basel-Landschaft) has increased by 20 percent to over 2,000 people. At the same time, the quantities produced were increased significantly and the portfolio for digital solutions was expanded. The specialist in measurement and automation technology has invested 60 million Swiss francs in its campus so that it can also meet the new demands of the working world, apprenticeships and digitization.
The shell construction work began in 2019, the inauguration will be celebrated on July 1, 2022: Endress+Hauser has erected a building almost 150 meters long at the Reinach site. An open space and an existing building on Kägenstrasse were planned for this purpose. The additional usable area is more than 25,000 square meters - the equivalent of around four football pitches. A total of around 19,000 cubic meters of concrete and 2,200 tons of reinforcing steel were used.
Located in the new building are Endress+Hauser Flow, the competence center for flow measurement technology, and Endress+Hauser Digital Solutions, responsible within the group for all topics relating to digital communication and automation solutions. The first employees have already moved in.
Production expansion and additional jobs
With the new building, Endress+Hauser is responding to the ongoing demand for high-quality flowmeters and solutions for the industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) in the process industry. Liquids and gases must be recorded, measured and billed more and more accurately. Responsible for this are, among other things, increasingly strict legal regulations and worldwide growing demands on quality and environmental protection.
Endress+Hauser Flow has reacted to these developments, expanded the portfolio and doubled the number of units over the past ten years. The consequence: a constant expansion of production and the creation of additional jobs. With the latest investment, the family company is making a clear commitment to the Reinach location and the Basel region, in which the group of companies is firmly rooted.
Sustainable energy concept
Endress+Hauser is also using the new building to reconcile its ongoing economic growth even more closely with ecological and social responsibility. In view of the goal of Endress+Hauser Flow's sustainability strategy of operating its buildings at the site in a CO2-neutral manner by 2030, great importance is attached to climate-friendly management. As part of the energy concept, for example, the waste heat produced is stored in a stratified storage tank for hot water and then used for heating. In addition, comprehensive energy monitoring with measuring instruments from our own portfolio helps to continuously optimize building operations
Large-scale photovoltaic systems were installed on the roof of the new building. They have an output of 365 kilowatts peak and thus cover the electricity consumption of around 75 single-family homes per year. In total, Endress+Hauser now has a photovoltaic area of 3,700 square meters at its Reinach site with a peak output of around one megawatt. This makes the company one of the largest producers of solar power in the Basel area. In addition, two bee colonies were settled on the roof and bee-friendly flowers were planted. The project is a contribution to the preservation of biodiversity, since the small insects are considered the most important plant pollinators in Central Europe.
