Physik Instrumente expands Eschbach site

06.12.2022 - Physik Instrumente is investing around 16 million euros in the expansion of its site in Eschbach, thereby tripling its capacity there.

The expansion of the Eschbach plant of Physik Instrumente (PI) is scheduled for completion in the course of 2024. The company will then have around 6,000 square meters of additional production, laboratory and office workspace at its disposal, more than doubling its operating area. The production area will even be tripled. It will also create up to 150 additional jobs.

More automation and clean rooms

In parallel with the expansion, the company is increasingly relying on Industry 4.0 principles for more flexibility and higher throughput. For example, assistance systems support employees in the assembly of customer-specific products and solutions. In the course of the new building, driverless transport systems will optimize the flow of materials in assembly under software control. PI also meets future customer requirements with additional clean rooms. Through the combination of increased staff, more space and the introduction of Industry 4.0 principles, the company expects to triple capacity at the Eschbach plant.

A photovoltaic system on the roof of the new building will generate renewable electricity. The Eschbach plant is also switching to district heating.

Eschbach PI site in detail

With around 135 employees, the Eschbach site is currently the PI Group's competence center for linear axes, rotary tables and system solutions for high-precision positioning tasks. The systems include mechanics, drive technology and control units with software. They are used, for example, in automation technology, semiconductor manufacturing and microscopy.
