Personnel changes at Zeiss AG

Monz, head of the Zeiss Medical Technology division, leaves, Weber moves up

01.10.2021 - Dr. Ludwin Monz, responsible for the Zeiss Medical Technology division, is leaving at the end of the year. His successor will be Dr. Markus Weber, currently member of the Management Board of Carl Zeiss AG and responsible for the Zeiss Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology division. Andreas Pecher will be the new head of the Zeiss Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology division and a member of the Board of Management of Carl Zeiss AG.

The board member of Carl Zeiss AG, Dr. Ludwin Monz (57) has informed the Supervisory Board that he will not be available for another term of office. The supervisory board approved the decision of Dr. Monz noted with regret. Dr. Monz and the Supervisory Board today agreed on the termination of the Management Board mandate at the end of December 31, 2021. Currently, Dr. Monz founded the Zeiss Medical Technology division. He is also CEO of the listed Carl Zeiss Meditec AG. He will also hand over this mandate at the same time.

The Supervisory Board transfers responsibility for the Zeiss Medical Technology division to Dr. Markus Weber (48). He is currently responsible for the Zeiss Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology division, whose management he will be relinquishing on December 31, 2021. As the successor to Dr. Weber, the Supervisory Board appointed Andreas Pecher (50) as the new head of the Zeiss Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology division and member of the Management Board of Carl Zeiss AG. He is currently head of the Semiconductor Manufacturing Optics (SMO) strategic business unit. The successor for the SMO unit has not yet been determined.

Dr. Ludwin Monz (57) has been CEO of Carl Zeiss Meditec AG since March 2010. He has been a member of the Management Board of Carl Zeiss Meditec AG since 2007. With effect from January 1, 2014, he was additionally appointed to the Executive Board of Carl Zeiss AG. In this position, Dr. Monz responsible for the corporate quality management function. He looks after the sales regions Japan, Spain, France and Turkey. After studying and doing a doctorate in physics at the University of Mainz, the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, USA and the Society for Heavy Ion Research GSI, in Darmstadt, where Dr. Monz worked as a scientist. He is also an MBA from Henley Management College in the UK. In 1994 he joined Zeiss as a scientist. Two years later he became head of the development of geodetic systems, then with overall responsibility for the division. In 2000 he then moved to the Medical Technology division at Zeiss.

 

Dr. Markus Weber (48) studied physics at the Universities of Karlsruhe and Ulm and did his doctorate. He started in 2002 as a research assistant at Zeiss in the Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology division. After management positions in various departments, he became head of advance development in the Microsurgery division of the Medical Technology division in 2009. In 2010, Dr. Weber was head of the Research and Technology group function of the Zeiss Group. In 2015 he became head of the SBU Research Microscopy Solutions and in 2018 also a member of the division management of Industrial Quality Research. In 2019, Dr. Weber appointed to the Management Board of Carl Zeiss AG - responsible for the Zeiss Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology division as well as for the Shared Production Unit and the Korea sales region.

 

Andreas Pecher (50) studied physics at the University of Würzburg and the University of Texas at Austin. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Kellogg School of Management and a Master of Engineering Management degree from the McCormick School of Engineering. In 1998, he worked as an engineer in chip production and development, initially at Motorola (now NXP) in Texas, USA. After completing his MBA in 2005, Andreas Pecher worked as a project manager at McKinsey & Company with a focus on high-tech and semiconductors. From 2010 on he headed the strategy and business development department at the solar group Renewable Energy Corporation in Oslo and Munich. In 2013, Andreas Pecher joined SMT as Head of Strategic Business Development. In 2015 he took over the management of the Strategic Business Unit Semiconductor Metrology Systems (SBU SMS) and has headed the Strategic Business Unit Semiconductor Manufacturing Optics since 2017.
