Sodick acquires majority stake in Prima Additive

24.03.2025 - Prima Industrie has signed a definitive agreement to sell its specialized 3D-printing subsidiary to Sodick.

The transaction marks a key milestone in the partnership initiated in 2024, when Sodick acquired a 9.5 % minority share in Prima Additive. The purchase is expected to close by the end of the second quarter of 2025. Giovanni Negri, CEO of Prima Industrie, commented: “We have decided to sell Prima Additive to focus more on its core business of sheet metal processing systems and 3D laser cutting machines. We are pleased to transfer Prima Additive to Sodick, a company that will undoubtedly allow it to realize its full potential.”

Prima Additive, headquartered in Turin, Italy, specializes in metal 3D printing solutions for various industries. The company has developed multiple types of metal 3D printers, such as laser powder bed fusion and directed energy deposition.

Sodick, based in Japan, is a global leader in high-precision machine tools, metal 3D printing, and hybrid manufacturing solutions. With strong technological and industrial synergies between the two companies, the acquisition opens new growth opportunities in the field of laser technologies for metal additive manufacturing.

Prima Additive will maintain its headquarters in Italy, and the current management team, including CEO Paolo Calefati, will remain in charge. The goal is strengthening joint R&D in metal additive manufacturing and expanding Prima Additive’s global presence.
