Camera with Pregius CMOS sensor
Ximea has released camera prototypes with third-generation Sony Pregius sensors.
The first models include some with IMX426, IMX425, IMX421, IMX420. The dynamic range of over 70 dB enables a true bit depth readout of up to 12 bits. All sensors achieve a pixel size of 9 μm. The ability of sensors to offer high and low gain leads to saturation from 20,000 e- to almost 100,000 e-.
The main idea behind the introduction of these sensors is to replace the discontinued CCD equivalents. Thus, the quantum efficiency of 70 percent is more than equivalent and the exposure time of 60 seconds helps to close the gap between CMOS and sCMOS. The prototype cameras have a PCIe interface for a high bandwidth of 10 Gbit/s, but can also be equipped with a USB3 connection.
