Online seminar "Heat flow thermography for industrial quality assurance"

01.02.2023 - Fraunhofer Vision division continues series of seminars in March

The Fraunhofer Vision division is continuing its seminar series with the one-day online seminar "Heat flow thermography for industrial quality assurance" on Thursday, March 16, 2023. Registrations are now possible.

Thermographic methods can be used to detect flaws in workpieces that lie below the surface and are therefore not visible from the outside by analyzing the heat flow or thermal conductivity in the test specimen. The basic advantages of the thermographic heat flow test method are the imaging functional principle, the high test speed and the relatively easy automation. Possible areas of application for heat flow test methods include the detection of adhesion and adhesive defects, delaminations, cavities or cracks in workpieces, the testing of joints or welds, the determination of layer thicknesses in composite materials or the detection of foreign bodies in food. Also z. B. very large components such as rotor blades of wind turbines or aircraft wings can be examined with thermographic methods.

Design and content of the online seminar

The online seminar consists of theory and practice. In the theoretical part, essential aspects of heat flow thermography are dealt with, e.g. B. the topics of infrared detectors and thermography cameras, basics and processes (inline thermography, lock-in and impulse thermography). In addition, practical examples and implemented applications for quality assurance are presented. The topic of "standardization, norms and guidelines" is also part of the program.

In the practice-oriented part of the program, exemplary applications such as the examination of GRP and CFRP parts or wood-based materials with inline thermography, the testing of magnetic materials with inductively excited thermography or forged parts for surface defects are shown in the video. There is also the possibility of individual application advice and subsequent examination of samples from the group of participants.
