HMI: Joko Widodo is coming
23.01.2023 - This year, Indonesia is the partner country of the Hannover Messe. The Indonesian President Joko Widodo has now confirmed his personal participation in the industrial fair.
He will speak at the opening ceremony on April 16 and take part in the traditional Chancellor's tour on the Monday of the trade fair together with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The two heads of government last met at the G20 summit in Bali in November 2022.
In Bali, Indonesian President Joko Widodo and leaders of the International Partners Group (IPG) launched a Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP). In addition to Germany, the USA, Japan, Denmark, the European Union, France, Great Britain, Italy, Canada and Norway are also involved in the IPG. Through this partnership, Indonesia will create an investment plan to achieve its ambitious climate goals. This makes the fourth most populous country in the world a highly relevant buyer of energy and industrial technology as well as a potential customer for the companies exhibiting at Hannover Messe.
With economic growth of more than five percent, Indonesia is on course for recovery after the pandemic. The main reasons for this are the high raw material prices. Coal, palm oil, nickel and rubber from Indonesia achieve record prices in some cases on the international markets. However, Indonesia's goal is to bring more labour-intensive manufacturing into the country. After the liberalization of investment law and labor law, international investors can now act more flexibly.
Indonesia will use its presence at the Hanover Fair to attract more business people from abroad. More than 150 Indonesian companies will present themselves at the world's leading trade fair for industry.
