MVTec celebrates 25th anniversary

Software for machine vision

02.02.2022 - MVTec, a specialist for industrial machine vision software, is 25 years old. The Munich-based company plans to celebrate this anniversary throughout 2022.

MVTec was founded in 1996 as a spin-off of the Technical University of Munich and the Bavarian Research Center for Knowledge-based Systems (FORWISS). "Over the past 25 years, we have managed to grow faster than the market. This has allowed us to maintain our independence, while ensuring that we can continue to conduct intensive research into new technologies for our customers," comments Dr. Olaf Munkelt, CEO and one of the three founders of MVTec Software.

Munkelt: "The machine vision industry will continue to grow".

The general economic conditions for MVTec's anniversary year are basically positive. "We do see certain obstacles to growth with the still strained supply chains and high energy prices, but we nevertheless expect further growth in the machine vision industry overall. The Corona pandemic has made companies even more aware of the need to invest sustainably in automation and digitization. Machine Vision is benefiting from this as the eye of production," explains Munkelt.

French and Taiwanese activities to be expanded

This is also reflected in the company's goals. On the one hand, internationalization is to be further strengthened. In addition to the existing subsidiaries in the USA and China, MVTec plans to further expand its involvement in important markets such as France and Taiwan. "Being close to our customers and listening to them has always been a key element of our success. We intend to continue investing in this asset in the future.

By strengthening our local presence, we can serve our customers even better together with our sales partners. This will also enable us to grasp the relevant market conditions even faster and respond optimally to the needs of our customers on site. In addition to strengthening our own presence, the optimization of our global partner networks also plays a decisive role here," explains Martin Krumey, Vice President Sales at MVTec.

MVTec continues its commitment to industry standards

On the other hand, the company's commitment to industry standards will also continue to play a very important role. Munkelt explains, "Globally uniform standards are an important key to the end-to-end automation of production chains in the context of Industrie 4.0. They enable the efficient, seamless integration of all technologies that accompany automation, such as machine vision."

In-house research department enables product innovations

MVTec's technological heart - its machine vision and algorithmic know-how - is reflected in the company's product portfolio: the machine vision standard software Halcon, the easy-to-use software Merlic, and the Deep Learning tool for easy labeling of image data offer every user the appropriate way to meet machine vision requirements.

The products are used in numerous machine vision applications worldwide and include modern AI technologies such as Deep Learning and classic machine vision algorithms. The further development of the products is supported by the company's own research department. The results obtained there are continuously incorporated into products and innovations so that customers always benefit from the latest scientific findings.
