Vision

Embedded vision system in miniature format for OEM projects

Vision Components GmbH

With VC picoSmart, Vision Components presents an embedded vision system the size of a conventional image sensor module, which considerably simplifies and shortens the development of vision sensors. Image acquisition and processing are fully implemented on the board, which is only 22 x 23.5 mm in size.

OEMs can rely on the perfect interaction of image sensor, processors, memory and operating system and concentrate on the application-specific programming and equipment of their vision sensor. The target applications include pattern recognition, position control, code reading, web edge control, fill level control. Vision Components already offers a sample application with real-time evaluation in the FPGA for the task of object recognition with the OEM module VC picoSmart. A pattern can be taught in at the push of a button and recognized and output in subsequent images. The customer receives a corresponding development kit for easy commissioning and the start of development.

VC picoSmart contains a monochrome 1 MP global shutter sensor, which is characterized by high light sensitivity and recording speed, an FPGA, a high-end FPU processor, memory and an FPC port for connecting an interface module. If desired, a display for live image output and for interaction and operation by the user can be connected. Most of the image processing takes place in the FPGA. The FPU processor, on which the highly efficient real-time operating system VCRT runs, is available for subsequent tasks. This combination of FPGA and FPU ensures maximum efficiency and computing power with low power consumption at the same time.
